According to the recent estimates of National Weather Service Wind and Solar Energy Resource Assessment Center, China offshore resources are incredibly rich, and potential of onshore and offshore wind power is about to reach 200 million kilowatts.
Compared to onshore wind power, offshore wind power is more stable and has a less negative impact on the environment. China onshore wind power industry always has problems of overcapacity in the western China, but remaining power in Western is too difficult to transfer to the eastern China.
China’s offshore wind power resources are mainly concentrated in the southeast coastal areas, these places closing to the populous cities with huge electricity demand. The development of offshore wind farm will resolve the shortage of power consumption in these cities. To some extent, it can reduce wind power shortage phenomenon in eastern China. It is reported that China’s Jiangsu Province is now planning to build 10 million kilowatts wind farms by 2010, and 7 million kilowatts will come from offshore wind farms.
